Unity Feature: Probuilder – 29/9/20

For today’s mission, we were assigned to research a feature of Unity, for me, I am going to choose a hidden feature, which is Pro Builder. Pro Builder is now part of Unity, but hidden in the package manager. It allows you to essentially build a level from a single shape.

ProBuilder allows you to easily construct shapes and it will do the maths for you to help it fit into whatever you may want to build. It can also be paired with ProGrids which allows you to snap objects into place so you don’t accidentally place or move anything to where it shouldn’t be. It’s essentially a slimmed down version of Maya for a Game Engine.

You can even create a custom polygon and make them 3D, as an example if you want a rock or a platform to be a certain shape, ProBuilder will allow you to make it… easily.

Another feature and the final one I will mention, you can easily UVMap and texture with ProBuilder. ProBuilder makes it easy to look at as it features simple and intuitive controls, it also allows you to preview the changes in real-time.

More information on ProBuilder can be found here. LINK.
