Production Management: Agile – 05/11/21

PM 2. Plan the provision of requirements for a specific production.

PM 3. Be able to co-ordinate a production release.

What is Agile?

Agile is a set of values and principles expressed in the Agile Manifesto. Effectively, its being flexible, it is the ability to create and respond to change. It helps us get our teams value’s in the right place so we can make the best decisions. The Agile Manifesto is comprised of 12 principles:

Furthermore, there are value’s that need to be considered so that the team can make the right decisions. These values are:

  • Individuals and interactions over processes and tools.
  • Working software over comprehensive documentation.
  • Customer collaboration over contract negotiation.
  • Responding to change over following a plan.

When following an agile workflow, it is important to plan, create, review and release builds so that we can keep iterating on the development of the software.

When it comes to planning a project, there are many tools that we can use and documentation that we can create so that the team knows what they’re working on and also so that the team is heading in the same direction.

Production Schedule – A production schedule is a timetable for the use of resources and processes required by a business to produce goods or services

Task Management – The process of managing a task through its life cycle. It involves planning, testing, tracking and reporting. Task management can help individuals achieve goals or help groups collaborate and work towards a goal collectively.

Bug Tracking System – A bug tracking system is a software application that helps keep track of bugs that have been reported.

Burndown Chart – A burndown chart is a visual representation of the work that is left to do versus the time left to do it. The backlog of work is generally on the vertical axis with time along horizontal. It is useful for predicting how much work is left to do in that space of time.

Project management boards – Websites like Trello that allow you to collaborate and share projects with team members allow you to keep track of the tasks within a project and who is working on what. It also allows you to comment and upload files should anything need to be shared across the team.

It is important to investigate and regularly update the project management documentation so that we can keep track of our progress and keep on top of the tasks that we have left to do. Without this, it would be improper planning and there would be severe consequences such as reaching the deadline and being short on assets, having to crunch to get the work done and having to cut features out of projects. For our most recent project we will keep a burndown chart that will be updated weekly so that we can see how much work we have left to do before the deadline.

If we are falling behind schedule, we will need to adapt and take responsibility for our tasks. It is important that we communicate to one another and will do so with SCRUM meetings where we will take note should any issues arise within the team or the production of assets. We have a deadline to meet and a game to make for that deadline. In industry, if we don’t hit those milestones by a certain time, crunch will happen and people will not get paid.
